About Sandipan

Musical Journey

Sandipan, a 'Top-Grade' vocalist of the A.I.R. (All India Radio) and Doordarshan (Indian National Television), has received extensive taleem for about two decades from Late Pandit Manas Chakraborty, a name to reckon with in the contemporary Musical World of India and the worthy son of the legendary vocalist, the Late Sangeetacharya Tarapada Chakraborty, an Institution by himself in the Musical Firmament of India. Sandipan’s years of unrelenting practice, coupled with a rare cerebrality in his musical approach, his innate crave for perfection and, above all, his mellifluous and tuneful voice have all combined together to give his music a rare dimension that instantly captures the hearts of the listeners. Since his debut performance at the age of sixteen, Sandipan has, over the years, been performing in a number of prestigious and reputed music conferences throughout India and abroad. Besides, Sandipan has been featured on a number of leading T.V. channels of India.

His Music

Sandipan’s presentation of Khayal and Thumri chiefly characterises the Kirana Gharana known for its all- pervasive tunefulness, a serene reposeful movement of feeling and a caressive approach. Also found in his music the glimpses of the finer nuances of a number of other principal gharanas which goes to enrich his music manifold and which also speaks of a very receptive mindset in him in imbibing anything of quality. This is precisely what has prompted him to receive valuable guidance from the much revered Late Pandit Ram Ashraye Jha of the Gwalior Gharana, also the former Head of the Department of Hindustani Classical Music of the Allahabad University.
